Librarians Report:  Susan Hansen Director
LTSA grand award given to Director Hansen - -teaching parents strategies they need to teach pre-reading strategies to children.  The grant is three thousand dollars.  The grant is to begin the program in town.  They fund the startup and then the town is responsible for the program thereafter.  The program integrates into existing framework.  The goal is to increase the literacy scores for head start and kindergarten programs.  This program focuses on parents and their involvement in the learning of their students.  The program and teaching is held in the library.
84% of our town population has used the materials since the start of the renovation.  Downloading of eBooks, audio books and magazines increased by 19%.
Sierra Cataloguing System****
Kudos to Susan for the instructional video regarding how to use the new cataloguing system.  It has many views and other town libraries are asking for permission to link to the video.
Summer Events is going to begin in the library.  There is a pamphlet that has been created for children in grades two through five.
Summer Reading Kickoff is Thursday June 26, 2014 at 4P.M.
Summer Reading Finale is on Saturday August 9, 2014 at 2P.M.

Old Business:
Joanne Sullivan has been appointed to the library board.  A new member!
The Connecticut library conference was a success.  I spent time speaking with a vendor from Grolier who was showing me electronic resources for students.  The library is a member of the state consortium so that will give a discount on resources.  Also, the resources can be tailor made based on need so that will have a positive effect on the budget.  The ideas is to have the students use the resources via the Internet.  Students have tablets and smart phones that they can use to access the electronic resources from the web.

Library member discussed possible plans to raise the visibility of the library board and support the community through public outreach
A motion has been made to spend up to at least two hundred dollars to promote the library board visibility program to get children and adults to sign up for library cards.  (bookmarks, buttons, tokens gifts)  voter registration and survey monkey for feedback once library is complete.  (how students and parents want the tech to be used) reading incentives
So the library board has approved the motion!  Joanne sponsored the motion and Todney seconded the motion.
September 13, 2014 is the library board sponsored activity  10 A.M to 1 P.M.
Tuesday August 19, 2014 is our next meeting to plan the event
Send the missing people a note!
Motion to adjourn at 7:58 P.M.
